Families
I capture what your family is all about so you can save and cherish these memories for life.
Before your shoot, we’ll discuss what look you’re going for, what to bring and how to color coordinate your outfits for the ideal, aesthetically pleasing outcome. I usually shoot outdoors, but always have a back-up plan if needed.
What to Expect
Before
Prior to the shoot, we will talk in detail about what clothes to wear based on everyone’s skin tone and eye color. Depending on the time of year, we will also discuss what colors photograph well and to make sure everyone is color coordinated (to avoid clashing).
We will also talk about where and when the shoot will take place. If small children are involved, I remind parents to make sure that their kids are well-fed and rested. (Hint: Bribery works miracles!)
I usually have families bring a blanket to give us more posing options on the ground. (Neutral colors work best so as not to take away from the main focus — the family!)
Please note: The best time of day for shoots is either first thing in the morning, or 2 hours before the sun sets.
During
Family photo sessions are always 1 hour long, giving us plenty of time to explore multiple locations within a designated area. (Adding more time is always an option.)
During the shoot, I have families pose themselves on their own at first to see what everyone does naturally. Then I will tweak where necessary until I have the perfect formation.
I start with the whole family first, and then break it down to photographing each kid, each kid with each parent, all kids with each parent and finally just mom and dad together. (It’s fun to go back in time and recreate that pre-wedding feel!)
After
Post shoot, you will have a digital photo gallery to review. Next, you will choose 6 of your favorite photos to be retouched with full rights to those digital files as well as 1-4×6 of each photo. Additional prints/enlargements can be purchased through me. Total Cost: $345.00
Location
My favorite place to photograph families is Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville, MD, where there are a variety of places to shoot, including a river, a historic house, tree and flowers. Click below to explore other shoot locations.
